by Dr. Robert Ballard. His best guess is the plane was taken to 40,000 feet by the pilot and/or co-pilot, pressure relieved, then descended into the deepest part of the Indian Ocean.
The unfortunate part of the story is that Dr. Ballard's flagship can scan a 7 mile wide swath of the ocean floor up to 15,000 feet which is much more efficient than the sonar tool being used now, but nobody has contacted his organization for help.
